What Does Weightlifting Have to do with Speed Guitar?

When I searched the internet for a weightlifting routine, I hit the jackpot with Stronglifts 5 X 5 because the best plan is often the simplest. What good is a complex, killer one-hour workout that is too intimidating to accomplish? I prefer an efficient and straightforward method that excites me. I will get the desired results because the 5 X 5 plan gives me the confidence and motivation to train consistently. The similarities between the wisdom behind Stronglifts 5 X 5 and my Rehearsals and Exercises methods are fascinating.

A snail with a rocket engine on its back.

Against my advice, my son signed a contract for a 3-month gym membership. He has not stepped foot in the gym since. I could not stand to see this money wasted, so I snatched the last two months of the membership and have been weightlifting twice a week using a method I found on the internet, Stronglifts.

Mehdi, the coach behind Stronglifts, promotes a simple 5 X 5 method featuring only the most basic weightlifting moves (squat, bench press, deadlift, standing rows, and overhead press). He aims to prove to weightlifters that keeping workouts short and exercises simple, consistently training comfortably, slightly over your current optimal level, is the best way to progress.

I look forward to my 5 X 5 workouts with anticipation. I approach the gym confidently because Mehdi’s method is a model of simplicity, and his weightlifting moves are easy to execute comfortably. I record and track my progress in Medhi’s spreadsheets, which allow me to see my lifts and weights from yesterday and plan for today’s workout. I can complete a routine in less than 20 minutes thanks to Mehdi’s revolutionary app. My optimal level increases for each exercise through successive workouts as I go after my strength goals. Does this sound familiar?

Like Paul Gilbert, I enjoy practicing speed guitar because of the athleticism involved in ingemination, rehearsing by repeating simple exercises. I enjoy playing rock and metal music, but I want to play guitar at blazing speeds, probably for the same reason Arnold Schartwzeneger wants to bench press 500 kg. I want to impress. If I want to bench press 500 kg, I will need an efficient and effective plan and a lot of motivation!

Mehdi and I firmly believe in the effectiveness of simplicity as a motivator. Regularly practicing basic exercises is more than enough to achieve long-term goals. Mehdi, in particular, instills in his weightlifters a deep sense of trust in the straightforwardness of the 5 X 5 method. Similarly, I want you to feel confident in mastering your musical instrument using my Rehearsals and Exercises methods.

I hope you look forward to your daily rehearsals with anticipation. Approach your musical instrument confidently because my methods are a model of simplicity, and my Basic Sequential Exercises are easy to execute comfortably. Record and track your progress in my spreadsheets, which allow you to know what you practiced yesterday and plan today’s rehearsal. I encourage you to practice using my revolutionary Speed Seesaw metronome patiently and persistently for about 20 minutes most days of the week. Your Optimum Playing Speeds will increase for each exercise through successive rehearsals, and you will play comfortably at your desired speed.
